Remove the Fluid Pressure Sensor (FPS)

  1. Remove the Transmission FPS (24 mm) threaded into the main housing.

Disassemble the Intermediate Housing

  1. Place Intermediate Housing vertically on a bench with the Main Housing mating surface down.

    Caution
    Intermediate Housing weighs approximately 25 lbs. Keep fingers clear of pinch point between Intermediate Housing and other surfaces. Dropping Intermediate Housing could result in component damage and/or personal injury.
  2. Remove Lower Reverse Idler Gear Shaft from Intermediate Housing by pushing shaft up.

  3. Remove Lower Reverse Idler Gear, washers and bearing from Intermediate Housing.

  4. Remove Upper Reverse Idler Gear Shaft from Intermediate Housing by pushing shaft up.

  5. Remove Upper Reverse Idler Gear, washers and bearing from Intermediate Housing.

  6. Place Intermediate Housing on a bench and support housing to protect all surfaces.

    Caution
    Intermediate Housing weighs approximately 25 lbs. Keep fingers clear of pinch point between Intermediate Housing and other surfaces. Dropping Intermediate Housing could result in component damage and/or personal injury.

  7. Place Countershaft Bearing Guide (RR1097TR) onto Rear Upper Countershaft Bearing.

  8. Place Countershaft Bearing Nut (RR1098TR) against the Countershaft Bearing guide (RR1097TR).

  9. While holding the Countershaft Bearing Guide and nut, place the Countershaft Bearing Removal Cup (RR1102TR) over Upper Countershaft Bearing in the Intermediate Housing.

  10. Install Countershaft puller screw (RR1103TR) through the Countershaft Removal Cup (RR1102TR) and thread it into the Countershaft Bearing Nut (RR1098TR).

  11. Use an impact with a 27 mm socket to press out the Upper Countershaft Bearing.

  12. Remove Countershaft Bearing O-ring from the Intermediate housing and discard.

  13. Place Intermediate Housing on a bench and support housing on the Oil Pump Assembly surface with Input Bearing Guide (RR1095TR).

  14. Place Input Shaft Bearing Removal and Installation Tool (RR1075TR) and Universal Driver Handle (OE8044-T0) onto Main Shaft Bearing.

  15. Use a hammer to drive the Main Shaft Bearing out of Intermediate Housing.

  16. Remove main Bearing O-Ring from Intermediate Housing

  19. Press Rear Lower Countershaft Bearing out of Intermediate Housing. Place Countershaft Bearing Nut (RR1098TR) against Countershaft Bearing guide (RR1097TR).

  20. While holding Countershaft Bearing Guide (RR1097TR), place Countershaft Beating removal cup (RR1102TR) over Lower Countershaft Bearing.

  21. Install and thread Countershaft Puller Cap Screw (RR1103TR) into the Countershaft Bearing Nut (RR1098TR).

  22. Use an Impact with a 28 mm socket and press Bearing out of the Intermediate Housing.

  23. Remove Countershaft Bearing O-ring and discard.

Assemble the Intermediate Housing

  1. Install Intermediate Housing O-Ring into the Main Bearing opening.

  2. Identify Notch/Window in the Intermediate Housing for Main Bearing lock pin location.

  3. Place Main Shaft Bearing into Intermediate Housing with lock pin in the notch/window of the Intermediate Housing.

  4. Place Intermediate Housing on the Input Bearing Guide (RR1095TR) to properly support Intermediate Housing when installing bearing.

    Support the Intermediate Housing to avoid damaging the housing and sealing surface.

  5. Place Main Shaft Bearing Installer (RR1077TR) and Universal Driver Handle (OE8044-T0) onto Main Shaft Bearing.

  6. Use a hammer to drive Main Shaft Bearing into Intermediate Housing.

  7. Verify Main Shaft Bearing is fully seated into housing.

  8. Install Countershaft Bearing O-ring on Rear Lower Countershaft Bearing Opening of Intermediate Housing until fully seated.

  9. Locate both Bearing lock notches on Intermediate Housing.

  10. Place Rear Lower Countershaft Bearing into Intermediate Housing, aligning both flat spots on outer Bearing Race to marks on the Intermediate Housing.

  11. Lightly tap Rear Lower Countershaft Bearing into Intermediate Housing using a dead Blow hammer to ensure the bearing is evenly started in bearing bore.

  12. Place Countershaft Bearing Installer (RR1097TR) onto Rear Lower Countershaft Bearing.

  13. Hold Countershaft Bearing Nut (RR1098TR) on back side of Lower Countershaft Bearing opening.

  14. Install Input Bearing Puller Screw (RR1104TR) through Countershaft Bearing Installer and thread into Countershaft Bearing Nut (RR1098TR).

  15. Press Rear Lower Countershaft Bearing into Intermediate Housing using a 28 mm socket on an Impact until fully seated.

  16. Verify Rear Lower Countershaft Bearing is fully seated into housing.

  17. Install Countershaft Bearing O-ring on Rear Upper Countershaft Bearing Opening of Intermediate Housing until fully seated.

  23. Install Input Bearing Puller Screw (RR1104TR) through Countershaft Bearing Installer (RR1097TR) and thread into Countershaft Bearing Nut (RR1098TR).

  24. Press Rear Upper Countershaft Bearing into Intermediate Housing using a 28 mm socket on an Impact until fully seated.

  25. Verify Rear Upper Countershaft Bearing is fully seated into housing.

  27. Install and hold Upper Reverse Idler Gear upper washer into Intermediate Housing.

  28. Install Upper Reverse Idler Gear Shaft by pushing shaft into housing, through washers, bearing and gear.

  29. Align pin with passage in housing until pin is fully seated into passage.

    Note: If necessary, use a soft faced hammer to lightly tap shaft into housing.

  32. Install Lower Reverse Idler Gear Shaft by pushing shaft into housing, through washers, bearing and gear.

  33. Align pin with passage in housing until pin is fully seated into passage.

    Note: If necessary, use a soft faced hammer to lightly tap shaft into housing.

Install the Fluid Pressure Sensor (FPS)

  1. Inspect the Fluid Pressure Sensor (FPS) and O-ring for damage. If damaged, replace the FPS; O-ring is serviced with sensor.

  2. Install the Transmission FPS (24 mm) into the Main Housing and torque to 19-23 Nm (14-17 lb-ft).
