Eaton 20-Way Diagnostic Adapter Procedure

Overview

This procedure describes how to use the Eaton 20-Way Diagnostic Adapter (20-Way EDA), RR1030TR. The 20-Way EDA is used to verify vehicle battery and ignition voltage is being received by the TCM. The 20-Way EDA is also used to verify J1939 circuit integrity to the TCM.

Note: For A5 TCM Part/Rev: 10003852 and 10004623, go to Power-up Sequence procedure to verify TCM is receiving vehicle battery and ignition voltage.

Verifying TCM is Receiving Vehicle Battery and Ignition Voltage with the Eaton 20-Way EDA

Note: This procedure supports A4 TCM Part/Rev: 10001705. For A5 TCM Part/Rev: 10003852 and 10004623, go to Power-up Sequence procedure to verify TCM is receiving vehicle battery and ignition voltage.

  • Key off.
  • Disconnect 20-Way TCM Body Harness Connector._Graphics/LineArt/TRTS0950_Diagnostic_20WayEDA_1.png
  • Connect the Eaton 20-Way EDA Transmission Control Module Body Harness Connector to the TCM side of the 20-Way TCM Body Harness Connector._Graphics/LineArt/TRTS0950_Diagnostic_20WayEDA_2.png
  • Key on.
  • Measure voltage at the Eaton 20-Way EDA between Pin "Vbatt" and pin "Ground" for vehicle battery voltage._Graphics/LineArt/TRTS0950_Diagnostic_20WayEDA_3.png
  • Measure voltage at the Eaton 20-Way EDA between Pin "Ignition" and Pin "Ground" for vehicle ignition voltage._Graphics/LineArt/TRTS0950_Diagnostic_20WayEDA_4.png

Verifying J1939 Circuit Integrity to the TCM with the Eaton 20-Way EDA

  • Key off.
  • Disconnect 20-Way TCM Body Harness Connector._Graphics/LineArt/TRTS0950_Diagnostic_20WayEDA_1.png
  • Connect the Eaton 20-Way EDA Transmission Control Module Body Harness Connector to the TCM side of the 20-Way TCM Body Harness Connector._Graphics/LineArt/TRTS0950_Diagnostic_20WayEDA_2.png
  • Measure resistance at the Eaton 20-Way EDA between Pin "J1939 High" and Pin "J1939 Low" to verify J1939 circuit integrity to the TCM._Graphics/LineArt/TRTS0950_Diagnostic_20WayEDA_5.png
